FTP Setup

You may setup additional FTP account(s) and assign unique user ids and passwords to enable user to log on to a specific directory.

Example:

You have created a sub-directory under your account called /sub-site. You can assign a new user ID and password for a user to access only this sub-directory directly via FTP. When users log onto this directory, it would be his/her root directory and he/she may not access your account main directory.

This is an added feature to protect your main directory contents when assigning different tasks for different users.

To create an FTP account, perform the following steps:

  1. Log into your sites cPanel.
  2. Under the FILES banner, click FTP Accounts.
  3. At the top of the page, you will see Add FTP Account. In the Log In field, type the name of the FTP user. A full FTP user name will always be formatted as user@domain.com
  4. In the Password fields, enter a password which will be used to authenticate this FTP account. We highly recommend a strong password for your FTP account.
  5. Set a quota for the FTP account. (Optional)
  6. In the Directory field, cPanel will auto-populate an assumed directory based on the FTP username, We would suggest erasing everything after public_html/ and providing the directory you would like the user to access. Also, if you erase everything and type a single “/”, the user will have access to your home directory (anything outside of the public_html folder).
  7. Click Create.
