During your time in the industry, what is one common mistake that you find people make, and how can you help them overcome that?
A lot of people think acupuncture is used strictly for pain management. When in reality, it can do so much more. Since traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture focuses on how your body functions as a whole, it can prove useful in helping with indigestion, allergies, infertility, menstrual issues, weight loss, and skin issues, among others.
What is the most frequent question you are asked lately (and the answer)?
The number question I’m sure that anyone who works with needles gets is “Will it hurt?”
Acupuncture needles are nothing like the needles that draw blood or inject vaccines. They are as thin as a strand of hair. Most people don’t even feel them entering the skin. That’s not to say that you won’t feel something. Painless does not mean without sensation. Most patients feel a mild tingling at most sights. Heaviness is also a common feeling. This allows most patients to relax and even take a quick nap on the table.
How does your product/service stand out from the competitor?
I respect my patients. Patients are inquisitive and intelligent. And that’s a great thing.
I feel that a lot of acupuncturists like to veil the theory of Chinese medicine and how it works from their patients. I love educating my patients on not only what I’m doing, but all the fascinating research being done that corroborates 4500 years of Chinese diagnostic theory.
Every patient is different.
I employ many different styles of acupuncture and non-needle techniques to create the best treatment plan for my patients. I integrate the use of vitamins, supplements, and Chinese herbs, as well as offer nutritional counseling, to help the patient help himself. Just as every person’s health and the story are unique, so is every treatment. There is no cookie-cutter treatment here.
How has the WWW helped your business?
I tried a lot of face-to-face networking to reach people, but Internet marketing has been the most successful way for me to reach out to people.
Since what I do varies greatly from practitioner to practitioner, peer-based review sites like Yelp and Google My Places have basically doubled the by-word-of-mouth referrals that I receive.
